Abstract:In the green and healthy way of urban development in China, the theory, methods and techniques of biophilic design are gradually paid more attention by scholars. Based on discussion of the concept and background of biophilic design, this paper takes the domestic authoritative CNKI database and the WOS core database as the data sources, selects the relevant papers by keyword retrieval, and counts the annual number of documents, authors and the citation of papers. With the software of CiteSpace, the author’s citation frequency, national document volume, keyword clustering and research direction are analyzed and illustrated. The conclusions are as follows: 1) a total of 539 papers, including 217 in WOS and 322 in CNKI, were published in the field of biophilic design. The annual number of documents showed an upward trend. 2) “Biophilia: does visual contact with nature impact on health and well-being?” is the most frequently cited paper in WOS, and “Healing oriented street design: Experimental explorations via Virtual Reality” is the most frequently cited paper in CNKI. 3) Professor Stephen R. Kellert from Yale University is core author in the field of biophilic design based on WOS. 4) The United States, Australia, England, Italy, Japan and Canada are countries with great influence in the field of biophilic design based on WOS. 5) The hotspots based on WOS are biodiversity, urban ecology, benefits of natural contacts, the restorative function of biophilic interior design and the natural ethical relationship with biology. The hotspots based on CNKI are the research on the combination of virtual reality technology and biophilic design, benefits of biophilia, the healing and restoration functions of horticultural landscape and the application of biophilic design in medical and elderly care buildings. 6) The results based on WOS database show that biophilic design mainly include environmental science, construction building technology, green sustainable science technology, ecology, biology, urban planning, public environmental occupational health, plant science and sociology. Based on the bibliometrics, the above research results quantitatively and objectively describe the research status and hot fields of biophilic design. It is expected to provide reference for China’s biophilic design researches and practices.
