Abstract:Global Land Project 2nd Open Science Meeting had took place in Berlin, from 19-21 March 2014. There were 650 participants from 50 countries met in the meeting and the theme of this meeting was "Land Transformations: between global challenges and local realities’. The meeting has four main issues and 103 sessions, and has oral presentations, flash talks and poster presentations. One of the main issues of this meeting is “Rethinking land change transitions”, and they discussed that on land change monitoring, land use dataset, land use modeling and remote sensing underlining the new approach, showing the current achievement, presenting the opportunity and challenge. There are four enlightenments of this conference for our country: (1) Enhancing the technicality of land change and land cover change monitoring, using various kinds of datasets to fit different scales, types and aims. (2)Enhancing datasets building, avoiding the mixing of good data and bad data, making dataset is systemic, ensuring the all kinds of land use dataset. (3)Enhancing land use modeling, improved data input, improved validation of land change model, improved model output for the future need of modeling are needed to higher resolution and more accurate projections. (4)Enhancing remote sensing, when you use remote sensing to study land change or land cover change, you should integrate the remotely-sensed and ground -based date with national level datasets, improve the capability of data analyzing and managing.
