Abstract:The International Workshop on Hydropedology and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources was held on June 28 - June 29, 2013 in Beijing Normal University, China. This year’s workshop was a great success with 150 professors and graduated students from all over the world. Discussion on hydropedology in the conference mainly from three aspects: Hydropedology and Earth’s Critical Zone; Heterogeneity and Coupling of Landscape-Soil-Hydrologic Processes across Scales and Monitoring, Mapping and Modeling. The meeting stressed the scaling and the creation of multi-functional station for monitoring. The following aspects are the revelation of this workshop on China’s research of hydropedology: (1) paying more attention to educating scientists with multidisciplinary knowledge; (2) promoting theory in monitoring, mapping, modeling and management applications; and (3) strengthening international exchanges and shortening the distance with foreign research as soon as possible. Challenges are now in scaling, technical and education, and the question to conceptual. Multidisciplinary applications are needed in future research to fill in the gaps of scaling theoretically and technically.
