Abstract:Heavy metal pollution has recently received increasing attention, mainly because of the public awareness of environmental issues. Cd contamination was resulted from several anthropogenic activities: the application of municipal sewage sludge, atmospheric deposition of Cd, mining activities, application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Cd can be transferred to crop plants, and was often accumulated to concentrations higher than its levels in the soil by many times. Cd accumulating ability of Maize at their best harvest time of six series of maize inbred lines was investigated in a greenhouse experiment with Cd-contaminated soil from Shenyang Zhangshi Wastewater Irrigation. The results showed that the period of the most strong accumulation of Cadmium of Mo17, 1487, Dan 598,340,5003 and 880 was 140d, 170d, 140170d, 140d, 170d and 170d, respectively, and also were the best harvest time. If the rate of containing water in plant was calculated with 93%95%,the least absorption capacity coefficient of Cd hyperaccumulator was 84 t/ha expressed with wet weigh. 1487,340 and 5003 have character of Cd hyperaccumulator. The definition of Cd hyperaccumulator was extended by application of the absorption capacity coefficient. Therefore, people can select the appropriate plant in more amplitude range so that it was feasible to apply Cd hyperaccumulator for remediate the Cd-contaminated soil.
